Experienced Employees' Shit Show in Bangladesh:
This is the first time I am hiring six-figure employees in Bangladesh. Here is what I find to be the difference between the workforce in Bangladesh and the US.
They lack the basic knowledge of their studies because they did not need to apply the core subjects they studied at the time they were in school.
Communication skills, to them, mean understanding how to flatter higher authorities. This is because in Bangladesh, the boss or business leader is mostly an idiot and often a thief who became "BIG" by doing overpriced government projects and stealing VAT payers' money. These short-lived successes have inflated their egos, so they can’t tolerate employees who are smarter than them. Hence, the flattery continues.
The private sector lacks top talent in the job market. The first priority for top talent is a government job because it’s secure, and you can make anywhere from $50,000 to $100,000 per month. The more corrupt you are, the more money you can make in the government sector. The higher the position, the more money you can make. The worst part is, you don’t even have to directly steal money from people—the bribe is distributed through a chain of command. Pretty cool establishment. Another reason the interim government is facing such challenges: if the government succeeds, those government job-holders (the thieves) would be jobless. I mean, they would have to do the job with their legal salary of $400 per month. Then, they would have to come to the private sector and face us, the entrepreneurs, who have been hardened by their corruption. They can’t withstand us.
